Abstract

This paper highlights the interesting problems in cosmology that require observational inputs normally available from optical telescopes in the 4-6 m class. The case is made that a large optical telescope built for and in India in the next few years can generate sufficient astronomy of world class to justify its cost. astronomy of world class to justify its cost.
