Abstract
The conformally invariant theory of Hoyle and Narlikar is applied to two astrophysical
scenarios. First it is shown how the existence of zero mass surfaces in the four-dimensional
manifold in this theory can lead to black holes and white holes. Next it is shown that the
so-called anomalous redshifts of QSOs and galaxies can be understood in terms of local
shifts in the zero mass surfaces of this theory. Some observable consequences are discussed.
